I’m trying to study for my Writing course and I need some help to understand this question.

Week 2 – Discussion 1

We all participate or identify with many groups. Sometimes we even participate in several groups at the same time (e.g., members of a family playing basketball with neighbors). Make a list of all the groups you identify with. When creating your list consider the following:

• Your nationality (e.g., United States, etc.)
  • United States
• Your ethnicity (e.g., German-American, etc.)
  • African American Woman
• Your geographic region, (e.g., Californian, etc.)
  • Georgia
• Your interests and hobbies (e.g., surfing and skiing, etc.)
  • Cheerleading
  • Community Volunteer Work
  • Reading
  • Dancing

Provide a norm (standard or rule of behavior) for each group. (Remember that a norm is an action, not a value.) Which groups’ norms do you follow most often? What influence on the communication process do groups have, both internally (within a group) and externally (between groups)?
