The third project will make use of both a new critical framework and academic/scholarly research to support and bolster your analytic ideas. The following prompt will outline the basic parameters for the final essay, and will be followed by lessons and activities that will introduce and trace out the research process and supportive materials to help you develop and organize ideas for the project. You’ll want to note that this essay project is substantially shorter than the previous two with a page requirement of only 2-3 (double-spaced) pages.
Thesis Statement： Both of the characters, Dr. Rieux from Albert Camus’ “The Plague” and the narrator from Mario Bellatin’s “Beauty Salon,” chose to serve others, adhere to duties, and exerted compassion over apathy in support of their communities during their respective pandemics. Even though the way each character went about it was very different, they both show how important it is to give back to the community during a time of need.
