1. In your view, what was the most significant event in the twentieth-century European
history? Why?
2. How would you define the Cold War? How did it start? Which incidents/developments
contributed the most to the intensification of it? Be specific.
3. Which social, historical, cultural, and economic factors help explain the ascent of the
Nazis Party in the 1930s the most? Be specific.
4. From beginning to end, the French Revolution stayed true to its original goal and
never wavered to achieve it. Do you agree or disagree with the statement? Why?
The length of each essay should be roughly two and a half pages (about 650 words) each topic. How well
you organize your response—think 5-paragraph essay format, with an introduction, body of
evidence, and conclusion—and argue your point(s) are two important criteria I’ll follow when
determining the grade of the essays. (The 5-paragraph essay format doesn’t mean you must limit yourself to five paragraphs. You are free to use as many paragraphs as you feel
appropriate.)
